🗳️ European elections are coming up this weekend! As citizens, we influence the world around us by voting.
We convened technical experts from across ABBLES Europe’s member companies for a 2nd in-person workshop to continue
Earlier this week, ABBLES Europe and European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) held a joint workshop on #HDVcharging. 🚛 ⚡
The demand for Heavy duty vehicles (#HDV) is rapidly growing. They are an integral part of road transport electrification.

Earlier this week, ABBLES and
European Automobile Manufacturers' Association
(ACEA) held a joint workshop on #HDVcharging.
🚛 ⚡
The workshop gathered key players who are part of the solution towards HDV electrification, from the charging and manufacturing side, to fleet managers or parking area operators.
The first discussion of its kind between our two organisations, it offered a fresh perspective on the challenges and bottlenecks, as well as opportunities and joint actions that can be taken to make sure truck electrification accelerates in line with the #EU policy objectives and climate ambitions.
The meeting was: constructive talks, understanding of expectations and difficulties, reflections on the path ahead.
👉 The bottom line: all want to make an electric future possible 🔋 ✔ but a lot needs to be done.
💬 Among what we discussed:
🔹Grid capacity and connection processes: these seriously need to swift gear to deploy charging infrastructure at scale to match the expected electric HDV demand - critical to see action now, for the successful electrification of the long-haul segment.
🔹Flow of data along the ecosystem, key to provide predictable, seamless services to consumers: an open conversation started.
🔹Standardisation for location of e-trucks charging inlet (CCS).
🔹Lack of space to build the charging stations serving e-trucks.

🚀 11Today the Energy Performance of Buildings
Directive (#EPBD)
enters into force! By 30 May 2026, all EU Member
States have to adopt national legislation to
implements EPBD and its goals. 🇪🇺
For the #EVcharging industry, this presents exciting opportunities.
🔋 Most charging happens in private settings:
🏡 Single-family homes
🏢 Shared garages in multi-family homes
💼 Workplaces
🅿️ Other destinations (hotels etc)
These locations account for the vast majority of EV charging and the kilowatts driving this revolution. Crucially, all these locations are tied to buildings. It is therefore of crucial importance that issues like cabling and pre-cabling are solved, and that the EU's building stock is ready for the e-mobility revolution.
📊 Check out the graphs below from our 2023 State of the Industry report, available in full here: https://lnkd.in/e57ir4qu)

11Did you know that there are many use cases
for #EVcharging?
While most charging happens in private, let's
zoom in on the public charging scenario around
highways. Research by our member Gireve reveals
that highways are a major catalyst for fast
charging - the volume of which has gone up a
whopping 3x since 2021!

Our members EVBox, ChargePoint, and
BorgWarner recently participated in a
stimulating Vehicle-to-Grid (#V2G)
industry workshop in Brussels, organized by
European Automobile Manufacturers' Association
(ACEA).
What is V2G tech and why it matters:
🔋 V2G could help solve grid constraints by using EVs as 'batteries on wheels', storing energy and discharging it when needed.
💰 V2G tech could help lower costs for everyone by sending electricity back to the grid, reducing the need for additional power generation.
🔌 EVs could charge during off-peak times, when electricity is abundant and cheap, providing a smart backup power source.
Together, we're excited to keep working on smart charging and V2G technologies. Thank you to the organisers and stay tuned for more updates! ⚡️

Heavy duty trucking generates 25% of Europe’s
overall CO2 emissions.
Yesterday, the EU took a huge step towards reducing this and improving the air we breath by agreeing to new CO2 standards regulation which will reduce CO2 emissions from this highly emitting sector by 90% by 2040 and require that all new city busses in Europe be zero emission by 2035.
The #EVcharging community is well underway in laying the groundwork for the needed #ChargingInfrastructure for the growing eHDV fleet.
Broadly speaking, this is happening in a phased in approach:
1️⃣ Semi-public depot charging
2️⃣ Public charging for #LastMile, #MiddleMile and & short haul defined routes
3️⃣ Charging to support long haul trucking coming
At this still early stage of the market, new technology, new site designs, and new business models tailored to the HDV use case are being developed while access to data, adequate power and seizable lots are being worked out. Still, we are confident in the growth of this industry, as 80% of trucks travel less than 500km a day in Europe and drivers are required to take a break, meaning ample time for charging and well within range.

Fleets are the future, or at least a
(rapidly) growing part of it. 🚖 🚖 🚖
A few weeks ago we published a new position paper on how to green corporate fleets. Did you know that:
👉 Over the past few years, the EU has adopted many supply side measure for road transport electrification?
At the same time, concrete measures like purchase incentives, tax measures and subsidies have been enacted only in national contexts. We need to ensure pan-EU incentives for the demand of #ElectricVehicles to even fleet compositions across the EU
👉 #RoadTransport is one of the biggest polluters in the EU today?
#EVcharging has a central role to play, as transport electrification is a low hanging fruit compared to some other battles.
👉 6 in 10 light duty vehicles sold in the EU are corporate vehicles?
Bought new, and kept for 3-5 years, after which they enter the second-hand market is a key consideration for developing a second-hand #EV market, making clean transport affordable for all.
Read the full paper to see our concrete policy recommendations below.
🚨 We encourage you all to participate in the currently ongoing public consultation on greening corporate fleets: https://lnkd.in/eFCz8TkN
The EU aims to reduce transport emissions by 90% by 2050, in comparison with 1990 levels. #HaveYourSay on how to get there.

Next month we will have the privilege of
hosting the 3rd annual Summer Recharge - the
focal point of the #EVcharging community
in Brussels. 🍸 🌴
We will bring together our members, partners and friends for a sunny rooftop gathering to put our best brains together in the post-election period. Together, we will reflect on how our industry can ensure that that the #eMobility mainstreaming continues with an exponentially upwards curve.

As the #EVcharging
industry is rapidly growing, and the wider #eMobility
in Europe is gaining momentum by the day, can
you keep up with the discourse? Answer honestly
- do you really know the difference between OCPP
and OCPI? Or what smart charging ✨really✨
is?
Don't worry, we're here to help you out. In order to make sure that the voice of our industry can resonate far and wide, and that we speak with one voice, take a look at the our humorous and fact-based #ChargeUpABC glossary below 👇

⚡️Bringing Power to the EU #SingleMarket
with #EVcharging,
we wish you an electrifying #EuropeDay!
❤️ 🇪🇺
Enrico Letta's report on the EU Single Market urges us to act fast - and when it comes to #eMobility, we indeed don't have the luxury of waiting.
Some highlights from the report:
👉 One market-one rule: that's what the single market has always been about. Let's make that a reality for our sector and stop requiring different EV chargers for different markets. Europe's strength is its massive customer base, so let's scale up, not split up. The upcoming review of the Measuring Instrument Directive is an opportunity for Europe to deliver on this.
👉 It's high time we got serious about unifying our 27 fragmented energy markets. Integrating energy and transport systems - as our sector does - shouldn't feel like navigating a roundabout without exits.
